Key features

The urban realm development for the access to the WANDA Metropolitano Stadium in Madrid, occupies 177,400 m² of road surface. The stadium has a capacity of approximately 68,000 seats. The drainage solution incorporated SuDS which manage runoff at source to prevent the surcharge of the combined sewer system. The main purpose of the proposed system was to attenuate the peak flows arriving to the combined system to minimise the impact of the development.

Overall, 63,100 m² of pervious pavement were installed, including both pavements made with porous concrete paving and permeable paving.

Technical support in the definition of the drainage strategy and calculation of the surface water drainage system, using the specialised software MicroDrainage for  Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) modelling.
