Due to an increase in the use of Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) in Spain, Madrid City Council has considered appropriate to publish a guidance on the field, to allow the urban realm developers, both public and private, to perform a sustainable stormwater management.

With the publication of the Guidance for the design of Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) in green areas and other open spaces, Madrid City Council, contributes to the reinforcement of international actions aimed at facing the current and future challenges of our cities, while contributing to the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).

The Guidance includes:

  • 9 SuDS technical datasheets with description, operation diagram, photographs, design criteria, benefits / limitations, maintenance requirements and implementation considerations.
  • Specific design objectives for Madrid, including a baseline pluviometric study.
  • 9 construction details.
  • Spreadsheet.
