This Guidance’s goal is to progress towards a more water-sensitive city model, promoting the approach of surface water sustainable management by using Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS), which are techniques inspired by Nature-Based Solutions (NBS).
This Guidance is applicable to all urban realm actions and housing developments in urban areas, both for public and private spaces in Castelló de la Plana, which has an area of 107.50 km² and a population of 579,962 inhabitants in 2019. The SuDS techniques that are best adapted to these areas have been selected, including a very illustrative sheet for each one. A total of 11 SuDS techniques are described: structural soil tree pits, infiltration trenches and soakaways, geocellular storage tanks, permeable pavements, filter drains, rain gardens, swales, wetlands and ponds, detention and infiltration basins, green roofs and harvesting systems.
