On 19 October, GBM took part in the “Water and City” Forum organised by the Valencia City Council’s Integrated Water Cycle Department and Levante-EMV. The meeting took place in the auditorium of the Sanitation Operational Centre and focused on the relationship between water resources and the design of urban spaces to face the adverse climatic phenomena resulting from Climate Change in cities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The panel discussions were attended by representatives of politics, public administrations, associations, as well as companies in the sector in Spain. It is noteworthy the interventions of Elisa Val\u00eda, Councillor for the Integral Water Cycle, and Marc Garc\u00eda, Water Commissioner of the J\u00facar Hydrographic Confederation. Above all, the interventors pointed out the importance of rethinking the city and establishing a new paradigm in urban planning through the Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SUDS), among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sara Perales, CEO of Green Blue Management, advocated the need to move towards “more permeable and resilient cities” based on solutions that simulate the processes of nature to obtain benefits without damaging the environment. The CEO stressed the idea that water is a valuable resource, not a waste to be disposed of immediately. Moreover, Sara discussed several successful projects where SUDS have been implemented to manage runoff and where green spaces have been designed to store water, leave it in storage for a few hours and then filter it back into the ground.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
