On July 21st and 22nd, the City Council of Las Palmas organized the first Conferences on the Challenges and Solutions of the Sustainable City. This event took place as part of Action Plan for the implementation of the Spanish Urban Agenda.
Experts and academics participated in the conferences who addressed issues such as the new challenges of urban planning, inclusive urban planning, new strategies for urban regeneration, climate change or water management.
Sara Perales, CEO of GBM, intervened with a presentation entitled “Sustainable Drainage Systems as an urban solution in the management of rainwater and flooding: 20 years of experience in Spain”. The challenges presented by rainfall in the city and the strategies to integrate urban development and water management were addressed. In addition, Sara analysed several successful projects where Sustainable Urban Drainage System (SUDS) have been implemented. These techniques have allowed reproducing or restoring the hydrological processes prior to urban development.
